windows 7 cached credentials no logon servers available

clock August 5, 2014 08:22 by author Ashwin Pai

When working offline Windows 7 Pro machines will occasionally receive the error "there are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request"

By default Windows 7 login is in the format user@domain

Have the user switch user , select other user and them login as domain\user

This worked for me

Printer is an unspecified device and print spooler service is stopped

clock April 4, 2014 08:01 by author Ashwin Pai

In Windows 7 & Windows 8 , all your printers have gone. If you have a local printer that printer is listed as an Unspecified device.

I solved it the following way.

I found that the print spooler service had stopped. If I restarted the service but it stopped again.

I went to "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" & deleted all the files in there.

I then started the print spooler service & it remained started.

Went to device & printers and all my printers had come back again & the local printer was no longer an Unspecified device.

Delete or reset FTP password in Windows 7 , Win 8

clock February 25, 2014 06:07 by author Ashwin Pai

You cannot reset the password , or atleast I do not know how. This solution makes Windows forget the server , & thereby allows you to reenter the credentials

The solution requires you to edit the registry. Proceed at your own risk.

Navigate to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\FTP\Accounts

Expand Accounts.

Delete the key for the server in question.

Event ID: 27 While processing a TGS request for the target server krbtgt

clock May 12, 2012 12:59 by author Ashwin Pai

While processing a TGS request for the target server krbtgt XXXXXXXX
did not have a suitable key for generating a Kerberos ticket (the missing key has an ID of 8).
The requested etypes were 18.  The accounts available etypes were 23  -133  -128  3  1.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: KDC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 27

The cause of the event is that the client requests a service ticket with a etype 18 (aes256-cts-hmac-sha1-96), which is not supported by Windows Server 2003 but supported by Windows Server 2008 R2. If the Kerberos authentication works properly, you can safely ignore the events. It just informs the clients what etypes it supports.

For more information, please refer to the following articles:

The security principals and the services that use only DES encryption for Kerberos authentication are incompatible with the default settings on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Installing Starry Night 6 on Windows 7

clock October 30, 2010 16:27 by author Ashwin Pai

When you attempt to install Starry nights on Windows 7 , the setup goes through the motion & says it has completed but nothing actually happens, only the required folders get created. You may also observe that it may attempt to install to an inappropriate destination.

The trick is to run the installation in Windows XP compatibility mode. However when you do this the installation application InstallAnywhere by Zero G has a problem & does not display the radio button to accept the license agreement & you cannot proceed.

Do not despair , the button is there but it is just not visible. try a combination of keys such as tab followed by space , or shift+tab followed by space , you need to move the highlight off the text & then click space which finds the radio button. IF the next button lights up you are home free.

Good luck

How to Enable Windows 7/Vista MonsterMode

clock September 9, 2010 10:18 by author Mayenkk

This will let you manage your operating system from a single Window.

Create a new folder anywhere on your system
 Rename the folder to
Lansend.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Double click on the Lansend Icon

Voila !!!

Warning!

The trick work on both the 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7. Vista 32-bit and Windows Server 2008 32-bit should also work. However, it is known to crash 64-bit versions of Vista — and you may need to boot in safe mode or to the command line to delete the folder.
